To Anon 11:50 / 08:57 et al, CPR 25.12 allows a Defendant to apply for security for costs, in the form of an order requiring a Claimant to pay a sum of money into Court to cover potential adverse costs, in default of which a claim will be struck out. It is not a perfect rule but it is designed to provide a fair balance between ensuring access to justice for Claimants on the one hand and avoiding prejudice to Defendants incurring wasted costs on the other.
