Virtue signalling about commitment to diversity has little to do with bettering the lives of societies marginalised talent and everything to do with feeding the vanity of those engaged in it...how for example, is diversity served where the chosen BME candidate is Carlton Banks instead of the Fresh Prince? Is skin hue enough to tick the box?
The first in the family to attend university?
Does this necessarily mean an underprivileged background?
Many careers (indeed many degrees) are forged in work or in the Forces.
What of landed or old money wealth? Have they had need of a university education?
Winston Churchill submitted an ink blot on his private school application exam but he was still Lord Randolph Churchill's son.
How does being the child of a Holocaust survivor make you underprivileged? My distant ancestor was a cave dweller? Does this make me deserving of a diversity leg up?
