As a full-time long in the tooth family solicitor, this is a breath of fresh air. My only caveat is that the 12 month bar from the date of marriage will remain. Other than that, the sooner parties can organise their relationships without having to rely on sometimes questionable grounds, the better. I do not believe that people will want to hop in and out of marriage. To most people a commitment does mean something. It is surprising how often clients wish to remain on good terms with each other, even when divorcing, and this change in the law will surely help. It will also I hope promote collaborative practice by taking the "guilt/blame" out of the equation.
