Several years ago I was approached by an individual who it was rapidly apparent to me was closely related to a very, very senior Russian politician = he was claiming to be Ukrainian - having added '-venko' to his obvious family name (to by-pass sanctions against Russians). He wanted to transfer GBP £9.5 million into my firm's client a/c from a UK property transaction that he was unable/unwilling to disclose to me. I declined to act and reported to the NCA WHO MADE IT VERY CLEAR TO ME IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS THAT THEY WERE UNDER POLITICAL PRESSURE NOT TO THREATEN THE RUSSIAN LEADERSHIP. When the individual(s) involved then turned into threatening my children outside the school gate - Thank the heck for the Metropolitan Police (who are well aware of the NCA's approach).
