Firstly the reason why Estate Agents charge much more than Solicitors is because they have refused to compromise, in the main, on their fees. Yes commissions are coming down now, but look at the calibre of Firm who have reduced their fees, the exact people who are being complained about in this article!
There is certainly an element within here of pots and kettles. It is hard to see too many established Estate Agents taking this article too seriously, and I do wonder looking at the Firms taking part, how much day to day conveyancing the participants actually partake?
Yes online Estate Agents are a shocker to deal with. But so are online Solicitors and Factory conveyancers. The profession knows that yet we have gone too far to do anything about that issue. So rather than put the conveyancing house in order, Solicitors are hitting out. This round table unfortunately will do nothing to reassure a wider audience that Solicitors have their fingers on the pulse.
There is a serious discussion to be had concerning general conveyancing standards, fee levels, the amount of time a conveyance takes to go through, and the conduct of Lenders in the whole process. Unfortunately this discussion was not it. Wide of the mark and missing the real target I'm sorry to say.
