Surely it should simply be a case of the best talent getting to the Bar, regardless of how they arrive?

I am not sure the Bar need to be so precious either. I know of one Barrister who is practicing at a Chancery Lane Chambers who lied on his Cv and misled people, amongst other things, to get his career moving along, so it is not as if people do not slip through the cracks in reaching their profession anyway. Maybe they should be weeding out people like that too if they are trying to set themselves the highest standards?
