Depends what for. My CFA says £300 for grade A clin neg work. It isn't excessive as such if it is the amount stated in the retainer and the work is done by the level of fee earner that rate applies to.

Claiming that rate (and that the work was done by a fee earner against whom that rate is applied) when it was done by a lower level fee earner is fraud or attempted fraud in my book.
