I do not accept that a 'veteran solicitor' should be able to 'rely on' the advice of his external litigation lawyers to the extent that he simply does what he is told - he must have full well known about the requirement in the settlement agreement concerning complaints to the SRA.

I am also astounded that this man was accepting gifts in the wills that he or his firm were drafting and then having the 'independent' legal advice being given to the testators by his own employees. The idea that this is the regulator picking on the little is absolute stuff and nonsense, this fellow had it coming and it's just a pity that he took other people's jobs with him when the intervention occurred.

For once, I actually agree with the SRA taking this on, although I find the 237 hours billed absolutely staggering and totally inappropriate.
