An elderly aunt of mine died 2 years ago. The estate administration is finally at the point of completion, despite paperwork being straightforward and in order, with her property having been sold prior to death, although there has been a 6 month delay awaiting HMRC clearance. My late aunt's solicitor is her executor. He received a legacy of £5000 in her will, left the firm suddenly a year ago without notifying clients, and the current probate partner has had to pick up the pieces of his file. The family are less than delighted with the handling of the matter - there are several instances of incompetence - but frankly after all this time we just want closure.
