I have just submitted my bill for a defendant in custody. I had represented him in the Magistrates' Court and visited him in a far- faraway prison. Two full days solely spent on this case, plus preparing references, speaking to family etc. My fee? £198 for the whole case. From this I have to purchase Professional Indemnity Insurance, pay authorisation fees, pay for professional development, not to mention office rent, business rates etc.
