I have been in legal practice for more than 40 years, but do not consider myself a "dinosaur", nor am I opposed to change, but one thing I have learned is that "progress" is often quite the reverse. I am far from a technophobe - quite the reverse, as I embrace new technology and all that it has to offer - but when it comes to interacting with clients (I won't use the word 'consumer') I still use the same model that was instilled in me by my first principal: the client comes first. I believe in personal contact and personal service and as a sole practitioner for the last 5 years I have been able to run my practice my way. But the SRA has over the past few years been making it increasingly difficult for me to operate a law practice in the way that I believe that it should be run and this latest nonsense is the last straw. Sadly, therefore, I have made two decisions: (1) I am closing my website before the regulations take effect and (2) I am beginning to plan for the closure of my law practice within the next two years. By the way, my choice to remain anonymous is based upon my mistrust of our regulator.
