The decision is right. It's best seen as an application of the principles which led to the employers being liable in Lloyd v Grace Smith & Co (where the title deeds were the equivalent of the personal data) and Morris v Martin (where the mink fur was the equivalent of the personal data). The DPA aspect makes it look more complicated than it is.
