I agree that the CPS leadership has done nothing to acknowledge or deal with this problem for years and that is deeply damaging, but equally I have not yet seen any sensible suggestion about how to tackle what seems to be an insurmountable problem. In almost every single prosecution now there will be the possibility of some piece of evidence, crucial to either the defence or the prosecution, hidden somewhere in the unending morass of apps, messages and so on, on a number of devices. and it is not just the protagonists' devices that need to be looked at. if victim tells friend A about what happened to her face to face, friend A may report that to friend B via text. Does anyone check witnesses' devices for consistency of evidence?

it now seems utterly beyond control and I pity those practitioners still in criminal practice
