On the BBC website this morning, it was reported that organised crime is a bigger threat than terrorism and "Each year it kills more of our citizens than terrorism, war and natural disasters combined." The National Crime Agency values the cost of organised crime to the economy as £37bn a year, up from £24bn 5 years ago.

In response, the government is announcing a new strategy and allocating £48m to tackle it. Or 0.13% of the damage it says is being done to the economy.

On that basis, I think the comments below about the government seeking to use professionals to do police work on the cheap sound spot on.
