Several years ago I was approached by a number of individuals who had been wrongly advised by a certain "professor" from East London. The "Professor" was telling them that, as a Professor of Law, he was better qualified than a solicitor or a barrister. The "Professor" in fact was a barred articled clerk, who in 2009 served a term of imprisonment for providing immigration advice without accreditation (he had been prosecuted by the Immigration Commissioner's Office).
It appeared that upon his release from prison this "Professor" continued duping members of the public by pretending to have special qualifications.
When his clients complained to the SRA they were told that the SRA had no power to do anything as he was not regulated by them.
