For solicitors, striking off is, in practical terms, for ever. That is not so for accountants in dishonesty cases. It makes opposition to a lowering of the burden of proof all the more significant.

An appeal will be very costly: costs to date will be substantial. Perhaps the Solicitors Benevolent Association would consider some support if asked. This is not a case of theft of client money, and even those who think the outcome is right may not be too unsympathetic to the issue being tested further at a higher level.
