There are too many barristers chasing the amount of criminal legal aid work. But I agree the priority has to be Criminal not Civil legal. The system was much abused during its hey day so to some extent the profession got what it deserved. A litigation culture had taken hold and needed to be addressed but as with all political decisions the result went too far and I perceive now that local authorities, banks, insurers etc. are taking advantage of people who no longer have legal advice to hand. Power does corrupt and has to be kept in check. Without legal aid it isn't.
