I, not a lawyer, cannot believe the number of comments here hammering on about the necessity of 'honouring' the 'democratic' choice of the Brexit vote. You are all lawyers; you are all supposed to be capable of rational arguments, but it also seems you are as willing as the politicians to make false, irrational claims in favour of the overwhelming obligation to support, what I must suppose to be, your favoured option, Leave.
'Democracy' is rule by the 'Demos', 'the people'. It is wholly untenable that the will of the People in 2016, in many cases based on misleading claims by those unfortunately but unsurprisingly seen as having better information than the voters, can be considered the will of the changed, and better and more thoughtfully informed, People two years later. Government's self-serving assertion that they are bound now by 'conscience' (what a scummy word for politicians) and democracy to the slim majority of voters two years ago is deceit and dishonesty beyond the disgusting level that it has remorselessly risen to over the 60 years that I have been observing our political class.
