Whilst slightly off the point of this article, I would be interested on views as to how acceptance of rape myths by the DEFENDANT could be relevant to the consent provisions of rape law. If we say that rape myths (such as the invitation for coffee example) are very prevalent, it is a reasonable working assumption that any defendant would hold them. that being so, how does that the assessment of his reasonableness of belief in consent?

Moreover, are jury members who hold these same beliefs not in fact best placed to judge the reasonableness of a fellow "believer" in the same myths?
