The proper focus should be on what are those people, denied access to legal advice doing? Are they proving to be a greater burden on the police/ social services the MOJ and local authorities than would otherwise be the case? Is this storing up problems for the future?
Looking simply at the cost of the legal services is the wrong.
The CJC should concentrate on the benefits of the advice and costs savings - look at the NHS as the example. A common complaint is about the lack of funding and the need for ever more funding to carry on the quality service it provides. People accept that it costs money to run the service because they see the value in what it is there for. That's where the focus of the legal aid campaign should be
