I was a legal aid lawyer most of my working life. I was honest in my claims but netherless got disheartened by arbitrary taxation. I was not a great buisiness man I suppose and should have kept appealing but I was so busy. I did pro bono often.....legal clinics and unfunded criminal appeals, for example. At the age of 50 I had a pension of £ £2000 p.a. approx! Luckily my circumstances changed and I was able to walk away from Legal Aid. My reward seems to respect of my colleagues and loyal clients......for which I was grateful...but no one can run a practice and have a life on legal rates. Now so many good lawyers are lost to the public. I was lucky not to have had to work until my death!
I am anonymous because I am too embarrassed to admit to working for so little reward.
