Sir Richard Richard. Thanks for your comment. In my experience the LSB, in particular, does take notice of measured responses supported by data. Focused answers to the consultation questions, pulling out one or two specific experiences from your firm supported by data, will be considered. I am not saying that every response will make a difference in every case. However some responses will make inform and change views. I completely understand how long it takes to read consultations, how soul-destroying it can be to do so, and how much work is required in preparing replies. I’ve wrestled with the task many times over the years. My way of getting to the end was to keep repeating ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained’. The bottom line, though, is that solicitors need to engage with these high-level strategic issues in order to create a profession that works well for them as well as their clients, and therefore to survive.
