There are a lot of differing views about this subject which makes it interesting reading. From my point of view as a retired lawyer in the criminal field I find Mr. Day a particularly obnoxious member of the profession whose greed for money completely outweighs everything else. He has made these allegations on probably third, four or fifth hand accounts but of course he hadn't got the bottle to go out to interview potential witnesses himself when it comes to the crunch. I find Mr. Mercer a more reliable person to trust in this scenario but of course who would be interested in little 'ole me!
