If legal executives want parity with solicitors, they should achieve the same qualification standard set for solicitors i.e. LPC and training contract/professional skills course or LPC and period of recognised training/professional skills course. It's really that simple.
It is not appropriate to call for professional standards to be lowered so as to improve the lot of legal executives. Lowering of standards ultimately harms everyone in the profession and, arguably, society. A good example is that, in the past, achieving a first class degree was a distinguishing marker of excellence. Nowadays, 26% of students obtain a First and that's devalued the achievement considerably.
I sincerely hope the Law Society will do its job and fight to maintain standards and protect our profession.
