The question does remain - if you feel a solicitor will get a better deal than a legal executive and that, taking performance abilities, this is not justified in any way, why not seek to become a solicitor?
Frankly from years in the profession, I have come across extremely competent legal executives who are equal to if not better at what they do than many solicitors and I can understand their feelings of resentment.

However, all this begs another question, given the standards of practice of many solicitors, are the solicitors' exams currently testing enough and should we be expecting a higher standard from solicitors? The suggestion regarding an overhaul is a good one.

It might be that over recent years, it has become too easy to get through the professional exam which results in too many people seeking a training contract and then getting stuck in the paralegal category.

On the whole, we need to be looking to raise standards and avoid lowering them - we ought to make being a solicitor really count for something if, which it appears, it currently does not.
