Let's just chew over the (almost) £1m the SRA spent on the appeal.

If we assume there was some internal discussions as to whether to appeal that would be limited to no more than 25 hours (the equivalent of 3 people for two four hour meetings). Say £300 per hour £7,500,. The there are some costs re instructing external advisers, counsel and the like, so £10k, but say I'm wrong let's generously allow £50k.

That leaves (net of VAT) £770k.

I assume leading counsel's fee notes could not be more than £150k that leaves £620k.

If we take an average hourly rate of £400 that means that their advisers spent c. 1500 hours advising on and preparing for the appeal that is one person full time for a year.

And that's to get 'shot down' when taxiing out of the hangar.

The scale of these costs is almost as concerning as the decision to appeal..
