bizarre comments below. this measure does not presume determination of the hearing one way or the other - it simply tackles what is a common and obvious problem. I was a criminal practitioner for many years and this measure was in frequent use without any problem at all. no-one thought that the defendant was guilty just because this device was used. It was used more than once to prevent a father cross examining his child in relation to domestic abuse they had witnessed

it goes without saying that this would also apply if the victim is a male and the perpetrator female - although in my 15 years I don't recall a single incident that fit this criteria (not to say this does not occur - just that they do not reach court for whatever reason)
