Viewed from outside the UK, the legal profession in E&W appears hopelessly fragmented. The number of regulators and members associations is beyond belief. Other common law jurisdictions have one main regulator and one qualification which enables specialisation, at the bar or in other areas. My sympathies are with the clients - the hodge-podge, dogs breakfast, duplication and rigamarole of trying to find someone for advice or representation, at a reasonable cost, must be a nightmare. The complaint of certain sections of the profession that they're being undersold or are victims of snobbery is like something out of Fawlty Towers.
