Too harsh given all the circumstances, in particular the fact that he reported himself to the SRA. Assuming that reporting was not something forced upon him (because someone else would have done it), there needs to be some leniency shown or no-one will report themselves. If the aim is transparency within the profession, punishing those who admit their own faults will drive problems back under the carpet.
