Feel this chap has tried to be a bit clever and got his comeuppance, albeit it feels disproportionately harsh. The SDT feels a very blunt tool in these types of situations and you just wonder if they could be more "creative" in their punishments.

Why not give him a "final warning", hefty fine plus costs (always hefty!) and get him doing pro bono "community service" for a year or two?

I'm sure that a more proportionate and compassionate approach could similarly have been applied to the "whistleblower" case reported this week. Did she do wrong - yes she did, but can we give her an opportunity to prove she won't do it again - surely we must? You could always restrict her ability to act unsupervised etc with conditions on her PC after she demonstrates a period of good behaviour.
