The CPS job is doomed to end in failure because the system cant deliver and the deputy chief will carry the can. The job is a poison chalice. But, no one wants to read about million pound legal aid barristers. I think the answer to the problem is an employed criminal defence service. One that is properly funded. Buy those at the top may have to accept capped salary at say £150,000.00 pa. Middle rankers £50,000.00? Juniors £30,000.00. No need for legal aid admin etc then. Those who want to earn more just would not aspire to the criminal bar in the first place. Oh, and a full civil service pension after 30 years service? Why is this idea not reasonable?
