We need more clarity on it. I did this from the mid 90s and am a sole trader with my own clients (no secretary, only person in my firm) and with the insurance I have paid for since then I could have bought a small house (and have never had a complaint or claim of any kind).

When the new rules on freelancer solicitors come in (I don't tihnk this article dealt with those and they are the biggest issue around surely for "freelancers" ) many of us will have to decide whether to be full solicitor's firm as I am or not. I cannot remember if the new freelance category means you cannot perform reserved activities or not - I have about one trial every 2 years so I would have to consider the pros and cons of that loss.
