Anon @ 18.37 yesterday - there clearly are degrees of dishonesty.

Taken to extremes, are we going to demand strike off as the only possible punishment for the solicitor who tells a client they can't speak right now as they are just about to go into a meeting, when actually they just want 10 minutes to read whatever it is the client wants to talk about, or even that they just want to finish their morning coffee? They lied to a client, ergo strike off?

Again, the actions here were clearly more serious, and deserved sanction. Quite frankly, I would have taken the view that being dragged through the SDT process was punishment enough. I also think they could have taken into account the inevitable damage to Ms Scott's career from the whole episode, which was of course partly her fault but mainly the fault of her 'superiors'.
