Anonymous @16:04 on 11 February. The statement on diversity is extremely important. For whatever reason, the Supreme Court is currently overwhelmingly white, male, and Oxbridge educated. If you are not from that demographic there may be an assumption or belief that you need to be from that background to succeed in an application. By stating that they are looking for applicants from a diverse background the Supreme Court are telling applicants that it is not necessary to have that background to succeed in an application. This may encourage applicants who might not otherwise apply.

The diversity statement does not mean that the court will favour one applicant over any other. They are simply trying to obtain a wider pool of applicants. The notice is not discriminatory and it is far from pointless.

p.s. I am a white Oxbridge educated male.
