I am amused at the separation of powers argument. Explain to me how the Law Lords, sitting in the Lords, which privilege they would doubtless forego, influences legislation? It makes the quality of debate poorer. No, this was Tony Blair and his "right on" brigade changing something for the sake of it. Separation of powers has worked so well in the USA hasn't it? Our "president" stays out of politics by convention but has the overwhelming power to intervene if needed. Her Judicial power was excluded by custom in James I's time. Her executive power is delegated to the House of Commons. Her legislative power ditto. Where is the need to muck around with this? It's the same need that new golf captains have to change the bunkers on the " difficult" third hole.
