The great difficulty is where there has been a disagreement in the family, or an elderly, ill and now crotchety person imagines slights no matter how much the family bends over backwards to try to keep the peace.

The next step of course is the changing of the will and the legacy going to the cat home or whatever charity was last on TV or suggested by the will writer.

Next week it might all be forgotten and the family are back in favour but that time bomb will is ticking away in the background.

Maybe there ought to be a requirement for regular confirmation that the will is as the person wishes it to be if it disinherits family. Or even a requirement (as suggested earlier by Ednar Wagner) that anything disinheriting family should be given away before death so that the person giving it suffers the loss, not the family.

There is also a concern that predatory charities are targeting vulnerable people for legacies. Offering "free" will writing - and of course they claim that there is no need to leave them anything but how many of us are strong enough to point blank refuse in that situation? As they say, nothing is free.
