I was a 'trained solicitor' supervisor in a student drop in free advice clinic a dozen or more years ago. Very helpful for the students. Around 60% of the cases were housing related at first, and the scheme was so successful it expanded considerably. The students were guided before the client interview based on an information sheet the client completed; conducted the interview unsupervised; discussed the issue with the supervisor; then drafted suitable written advice. This scheme doesn't sound wildly different, save that there may be no external supervisors.
