I would endorse the call of anonymous at 13.42 for the Gazette to publish the FOI request and response. The SRA has Memoranda of Understandings with all sorts of bodies, the SFO, the CPS, etc, which are clearly aimed at eroding privilege and exposing solicitors to direct challenge on a number of fronts. It is hard to account for their decision making in a number of instances other than sheer malevolence towards the profession. My observation is that this is rooted in a thread of extreme free market ideology that runs from the late not-so-lamented LSC through to the LSB and SRA today. They should read Adam Smith more carefully to understand where their extremism will take us all.
