Great article Amy and this closely reflects what I see both as a solicitor and as a Wellbeing & Resilience speaker, trainer and coach.

The pressures on our graduates and junior members of the profession are intense. Pressures come from all directions - the desire to succeed, the demands placed on people to help their firm succeed, financial burdens from university and beyond are greater than ever for those just starting out, competition is intense with an over-supply of academically qualified lawyers, social media pressures are significant and so on.

I see this a lot in my work, with people turning to coaching for support. Interestingly, my coaching clients are not always those with wellbeing challenges seeking support. A large proportion of clients are people-managers who come to me to learn how to support a junior member of the team. Sadly they often get external help because their firm doesn’t train them to on how to offer support for wellbeing.

On a positive note, I do see firms increasingly looking for guidance on how to improve their wellbeing offering.

Progress is patchy though, and we need to see some key leadership influencers and firms making overt moves to improve wellbeing & resilience support in our profession.

Hope helpful

Jonathan
