With respect, I believe the Home Office got this one exactly right.

ISIS is a terrorist organization and we have already had the Manchester Arena attack, Westminster Bridge and other jihadist terrorist atrocities in this country. The British people deserve and need protection from the spread of jihadist ideology and its murderous effects. Indeed, this is the HO's job and revoking Shemima Begum's citizenship was unarguably for the public good. The fact other jihadists have been welcomed back does not change this fact. It is to be hoped that a precedent is now set that allows to exclude more jihadists and their supporters who only wish us harm. They have no moral right whatsoever to British protection.

Shemima is not stateless. She is entitled to Bangladeshi citizenship and is free to take it up. As the wife of a Dutch national she can also claim citizenship there. It is simply wrong to say she has been made stateless. There is no breach of international law.

All three of Shemima Begum's children have died by the age of 18 months. The common denominator is not Britain and we as a nation are not in any way responsible for baby Jarrah's death. Neither is the HO - there is no causal link whatsoever between the revocation of Begum's citizenship and the death of the baby. The highest probability in the circumstances is that the baby would have died anyway.
