Whilst I do not belittle the laudable roles assumed by Messrs. Varney, Elliott & Hart, the fact that they are willing to work pro bono, in cases such as these, gives the Government no incentive to provide legal aid for bereaved families desiring representation at inquests. Whilst it may seem hard hearted, I believe that pressure for change has a better prospect of achieving a positive result if we see, increasingly, such families struggling to present their cases to coroners in person. The media is likely to show pity for such people in such circumstances and maybe only such media pity, and concomitant outrage at the Government's position, will precipitate change.
