If only... I am afraid this article is misleading. The pay deal - which was over 2 years, 2018-19 and 2019-20 is long overdue. Those at the bottom of the Senior Prosecutor scale get up to 4% per year whilst those at the top get 2%. There is a marked difference in the pay scale for SCP's, those at the bottom earning up to 13k less than those at the top, despite sometimes having similar experience so this was an attempt to narrow the (far too wide) gap. Crown Prosecutors do get a good increase but deservedly so as they were on a low pay scale.
I agree that everyone in Prosecution work should be properly paid, but Chris Henley QC's comment ' By contrast the barristers who prepare and present the most important and difficult prosecution cases are paid less than they were 20 years ago' is surprising. What does he think CPS lawyers often carrying out heavy caseloads of complex work do?
Well done to the FDA negotiators.
