Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of who gets what, from a business point of view it makes sense to pay more to grades in which there are shortages of personnel. What does not make sense is the way in which over the last decade experienced prosecutors were paid large sums to leave due to a Treasury cut of 25% to the CPS budget.

As a former SCP I find it quite amusing that the new contract allows for working hours of up to 12 hours per day, because with back-to-back court duties including trials every day, a 60-hour week was quite normal in my experience.
