I do believe that solicitors are more harshly treated. Just take a look at the prosecution success rates in the SDT. Look at the level of fines. The very high legal costs you have to pay the prosecution (the SRA). More work should be done to make the whole process operate more fairly, less costly and be comparable to other regulatory systems. In particular, fitness to practise rules should be introduced and a means tested mutual defence fund available to the whole profession (too many unrepresented solicitors do not get a fair hearing).
