I do understand that they are just a general indication, and maybe I am overcomplicating this or misunderstanding, but does the little caveat at the bottom of the SDT table not render these figures somewhat meaningless? The figures are based on the number of applications, which could 'include multiple respondents' - consider:

- 10 applications to the BTAS, all resulting in disbarment.
Number of disbarred barristers: 10
- 10 applications to the SDT (five of which are single respondents, three of which have 2, and the remaining two applications have 3 respondents), all resulting in strike-offs.
Number of struck off solicitors: 17

Surely it would be more appropriate to count the number of actual respondents rather than the applications?

Not that, I hasten to add, I disagree with the article - particularly after reading a couple of days ago the shocking decision regarding our learned friend Kevin Barry. A fine of £3000 in response to what was an actual, honest-to-goodness SEXUAL ASSAULT, is absolute insanity.
