I must be getting old but I thought that as recently as 1st November 2016, the SRA scuttled the old 'rigid' CPD system in favour of its new touchy-feely, flexible, holistic, transformational 'Continuing Competence' system. We had to change the way we thought. The new paradigm was about 'reflecting on our learning'. It was about threshold competences, huge impenetrable competence statements, statements of legal knowledge. It was so arcane that it even came with a toolkit.

And we all spent a small fortune on training courses, toolkits, consultants etc etc and we STILL couldn't fathom out whether what we were doing was correct. Of course the main reason for this was not us - it was because it was another clunker of an idea from that great clunker manufacturer, the SRA.

So before you start imposing on us new CPD systems 'passported' from the Chartered Institute of Plumbers or the National Association of Funeral Directors, and creating yet more chaos, please talk to a few solicitors first.
