Presumably as their retainer with their insurer client provides for those lower hourly rates, so that is all they can claim.

Which was actually the point I was making at 8:01 as, if Good's client retainer was £400.00 an hour, I see nothing wrong with that being the rate claimed in the bill of costs (albeit you won't get it).

And I don't think he was claiming for time not spent (as you also refer to), was he? Though if he was, I would agree that is dishonest.

Your final paragraph also strikes me as contradictory.
