One snowy and icy February, I once attended a District Registrar's appointment in chambers with a colleague who was horrified to discover his black shoes were not in his pilot's case and he had to attend wearing moon boots. Being alive to his embarrassment, I took the seat at the farthest side of the room whilst making some small talk to allow him to slither in, hopefully unnoticed. They were lilac.
