There's a big difference, Mr Hathaway, between regarding homosexuality as "intrinsically wrong" and considering the death penalty an appropriate reaction. It is surely possible to hold in one's mind the two concepts that an activity can be "decriminalized" without thereby being approved. The modern practice of stoning or otherwise executing adulterers and homosexuals (in Moslem countries that were not previously European colonies as well as in those that were) is purely a product of extreme Islam, not of any former western influences. Nothing is gained by trying to slur over this fact.
