This is wholly about money. Centralising admin = excellent cost cutting but much poorer service to users (but who cares, eh?). Increasing average fees by multiples rather than percentages = lots more money rolling in but the creation of a hidden tax whereby bereaved families pay for Government services that they do not benefit from (but, again, who cares?). It's only solicitors who see what is going on, not their clients, but why should Government care about that? They know that the clients, when they experience higher costs and poorer service, will probably blame the people in front of them (solicitors) rather than the ones pulling the strings behind the scenes (politicians). Now, where else can we ramp up costs for giving dismal service, eh?
